Welcome to FireSafe Kitchens

Grease builds up where you can't see it

Every time you cook, grease-laden air is pulled through your canopy filters and into the ductwork. The rest cools and sticks to the inside of the duct, layer on layer, where your team can't see or reach it.

That film is fuel. One flare-up at the range can pull flame into the canopy, and from there fire can travel the length of the ductwork to the roof. We clean the whole system back to bare metal, measure the grease before and after, and give you the certificate your insurer asks for.

TR19® by the numbers

What the standard asks for

TR19® Grease is the BESA standard insurers work to. It measures grease in microns (µm) with a wet film thickness gauge. 200 µm is about half the thickness of a business card.

200µmAverage grease limit between cleans
50µmPost-clean target at every test point
3monthsCleaning interval for heavy-use kitchens

What's in your TR19 report

TR19 certificate for your insurer

After every clean you get a certificate and a photo report, emailed within 48 hours. It records six things.

  • System drawing

Your canopy, ductwork and fan drawn out, with every access point marked.

  • Grease readings before

Wet film thickness tests at set points along the system, before we start.

  • Grease readings after

The same points tested again once cleaned, so the result is on record.

  • Before and after photos

Taken from the same angle at each point, so you can see the difference.

  • Areas we couldn't reach

Any section without access, and where a panel is needed to reach it.

  • Next clean due

The interval TR19 sets for your cooking hours, and the date it falls on.

If you ever need to claim, this is the document your insurer will ask to see.

How often does your extraction need cleaning?

Ask us directly
Is TR19 cleaning a legal requirement?

TR19® is an industry specification from BESA, not a law. But the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 makes whoever runs the premises responsible for reducing fire risk, and a greasy extract system is a known fire risk.

TR19 is the standard insurers and fire safety officers use to judge whether that risk is being managed. A TR19 certificate is your proof.

Does my insurer need a TR19 certificate?

Many commercial kitchen policies ask for the extraction to be cleaned to TR19 at set intervals. After a fire, the insurer will ask to see the certificate, and without one a claim can be reduced or refused.

Check your policy wording. We can go through it with you at the free audit.

What is a wet film thickness test?

It's how TR19 measures grease. A gauge is pressed into the grease film inside the duct and read in microns (µm).

TR19® Grease says the average should stay under 200 µm between cleans, about half the thickness of a business card. After we clean, we test the same points again. The target is under 50 µm.

How often does kitchen extraction need cleaning?

It depends on your cooking hours: at least every 3 months for 12–16 hours a day, every 6 months for 6–12 hours, and every 12 months for 2–6 hours. Your insurer may ask for it more often. See the TR19 intervals

Will we need to close the kitchen?

No. We work early, late or between services, so you don't lose a day's trade. We agree the time with you when we book.

What happens at the free extraction audit?

We look at your canopy, filters, ductwork and fan, and check where we can get access. You get a written quote and the cleaning interval TR19 sets for your kitchen. There's no charge and no obligation.

How much does a clean cost?

It depends on the size of the system, how easy it is to get into, and how much grease is in it. We give you a written quote after the free audit, so you know the cost before we start.

Which areas of Cornwall do you cover?

All of Cornwall. We're based in Newquay and cover every town in the county, including Truro, St Austell, Falmouth, Penzance, St Ives, Padstow, Wadebridge, Bodmin and Bude.
